How Love One Intervened for Melody and Her Daughter, Favor

The reality of acute malnutrition is that it rarely presents alone. For five-year-old girl Favor, it was paired with a painful intestinal obstruction that required urgent medical care. For her single mother, Melody, the diagnosis brought a dual wave of panic. As she navigated her daughter’s medical needs, she was also faced with hospital expenses that were simply out of reach.

“I was so worried about where I was going to get the money to pay the medical bills, let alone provide nutritious meals for my child while in the hospital,” Melody shared. “I was so desperate and moved from place to place asking any samaritan for support. It was through this that I was linked to Love One International.”

The Turning Point: Clinical Care Meets Critical Relief

Upon meeting Favor, Love One’s pediatrician immediately reviewed her complex case. Because of the complications from the intestinal obstruction, she was quickly transitioned to our partner hospital for emergency medical stabilization.

While the medical team focused on Favor’s recovery, Love One came alongside Melody with practical support. Because Love One covered the full cost of Favor’s medical care and provided for her and her mother’s daily needs throughout the hospital stay, Melody was free to focus on what mattered most: being present with her daughter.

The Next Step: Home-Based Rehabilitation

While Favor has been discharged from the hospital, her care is not yet complete. Favor’s body still needs to prepare for a necessary surgical procedure to permanently resolve her underlying condition.

To help her gain enough strength to safely undergo surgery, Favor was enrolled in Love One’s Home-Based Care Program. Through this program, our medical and nutritional teams regularly visit Favor at home to monitor her progress, provide specialized nutrition, and support her and her family every step of the way.

Looking Forward with Hope

When asked about the future, Melody no longer speaks with desperation. Instead, she looks at Favor with hope and excitement for what is to come. Melody hopes that Favor will one day become a doctor, using her own life story as fuel to extend the same medical care and generosity to other vulnerable children in need.
