Meet David

| , ,

Three short months ago, in a village about three hours away from the Love One Center, tiny, two-year-old David was quickly declining as his grandmother was doing all she could to help him survive.  David’s family could hardly afford a single meal a day, much less provide the nutrients he needed for healthy growth and development.  David soon developed body swelling, reduced appetite, and gastrointestinal issues. David’s grandmother sought help from a nearby health unit who quickly referred him to Love One International.  He was taken to the Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where he spent 8 days receiving life-saving care under the direction of Love One’s team of pediatricians for severe acute.

David wasn’t out of the woods yet!  Upon discharge from the hospital, David was welcomed to the Love One Center for continued nutrition rehabilitation.  He arrived weighing 18 pounds with severe muscle deterioration, edema, and lethargy.  He received nutrient-dense feedings along with gradual play therapy.  He was closely monitored and lovingly cared for by the doctors and childcare assistants at the center.

After one short month, his edema was gone and he started gaining weight!  He began to build muscle and became more involved in play activities. He continued to receive excellent nutrition, play therapy, and lots of love.

Now, over three months later, David weighs over 26 pounds.  He is a cheerful boy who loves swinging in the baby swings and playing with colorful toys.  He is thriving!

We are so grateful for the opportunity to come alongside children and families like David and his grandmother.  Thank you for your continued prayer and financial partnership with Love One International.  We couldn’t do this work without you!

After purchasing land and finalizing architectural plans in 2022, we are proud to announce that work on the site of our future home has begun.  The first step is demolishing several buildings on the site so that construction can get underway.

Because of your generosity, we are able to build Love One’s new home debt free.  Stay tuned for more updates.

Many critically ill children in Uganda don’t have easy access to medical care, so Love One ensures they receive the emergency healthcare and rehabilitative services they need. When children are restored to health, they return home to grateful families and joyful communities.
