Community Outreach
Prevention Starts In The Village
In remote Uganda, for many families, there are no routine checkups and no nearby clinics. Love One goes to them for preventative measures.
Community outreach is the first step in the cycle. Everything else Love One does — center-based care, home-based care, resettlement — starts here. Without outreach, children aren’t found until they’re in crisis.
The Process
Nutritional Education
Malnutrition Screenings
One by one, most children are screened for malnutrition using a small, color-coded band that wraps around their upper arm, while those with swelling or other complicating signs are assessed using additional clinical methods. A screening takes seconds but can catch what would otherwise go unnoticed.
Food Packages and Supplies
Families who need extra support receive packages with nutritional supplements and essentials. The goal isn’t dependence — it’s a bridge to get them through while they build new habits to support their families.
Hygiene Education and Supplies
Kitchen hygiene, food prep, washing tips, etc. are shared to equip parents to best care for their families. Teams hand out soaps and teach practices that prevent illness alongside malnutrition.
Identifying Children Who Need More Care
Some screenings reveal children who need home-based care or even the Center. Community outreach is how those children are reached and connected to life-saving care.
The Outcome
When families are well-equipped, children stay healthier, stay home, and stay out of crisis. Prevention breaks the cycle at the source or catches it early enough to bring children the intentional care they need.
